Essay Writing Contest Rules
1- Child must be a resident of Nevada and attend a Northern Nevada school or surrounding northern town such as Portola, California, which is represented within the membership of Nā ʻŌiwi ʻO Hawaiʻi Northern Nevada Hawaiian Civic Club.
2- One essay per child, 12 years of age or younger
3- Send essay in PDF format as an attachment to [email protected] with the subject line "Prince Kūhiō Essay, [Child's Name]". *Deadline for all essay submissions is Saturday, March 22, 2020 by 5pm. No late entries will be accepted.
4- Child cannot be related to a contest judge (child, niece, nephew, grandchild, grandniece, grandnephew, etc.). Judges: Ryan Studebaker, 2nd VP Nā ʻŌiwi ʻO Hawaiʻi NNHCC; Mohalapua Banner, President Nā ʻŌiwi ʻO Hawaiʻi NNHCC; Emily Borthwick Wong, University of Nevada Reno, Hawaii Club Advisor.
Essay Writing Requirements for Prince Kūhiō contest:
Top left of paper: First and Last Name Parents Name E-mail and phone School Attending Grade and Age
Body of essay: Should include no more than 300 words and 2 paragraphs.
The essay must answer these 2 questions: Who is Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaole? and Why is he important to the Hawaiian Civic Club?
